Real Madrid wins as Mbappe scores a historic goal.
Real Madrid defeated Atalanta in a much-needed match. With Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. Scoring goals and Kylian Mbappe scoring his 50th Champions League goal.
Prior to Tuesday’s game in Italy, the Spanish powerhouses had lost three of their five games in Europe this year.
They therefore required a win to increase their prospects of making it to the knockout stage. Which they achieved with this empowering performance.
In the tenth minute. France international Real Madrid wins as Mbappe. Broke free of his man and finished with a clever finish to start the scoring.
Later in the first half, he charged through the middle, but his attempt from outside the box was saved. It was his 12th goal since joining Real Madrid in the summer.
However, Mbappe appeared to sustain an injury nine minutes before halftime. And although he was able to leave the field, Rodrygo took his place, dealing a blow to the away team.
Sead Kolasinac went down inside the area. And Charles De Ketelaere’s penalty kick on the stroke of halftime gave Atalanta the equalizer.
After the interval, Real fought back, with Bellingham scoring his first goal in the Champions League this season and Vinicius Jr . Finishing neatly after returning from a hamstring injury to into the bottom corner.
Real held off late pressure to win three vital points. But Ademola Lookman gave Atalanta hope with his 11th goal of the season. Blasting a shot in at the near post.
Real’s victory put them three points outside of the top eight. Who automatically go to the knockout stage, and up to 18th place in the 36-team league.
On 11 points, Atalanta is in ninth place.
Since joining Real Madrid in the summer. Mbappe has found it difficult to replicate his success at Paris St-Germain. But he was excited for this match from the start.
The Atalanta defense was being stretched and alarmed by the forward’s deft runs in behind. And his goal was a reminder of his extraordinary quality.
In 79 Champions League games, he has scored 50 goals. Making him the second-youngest player (25 years and 356 days) to do so. Following Lionel Messi in 2012 (24 years and 284 days).
Real supporters will be relieved that he was able to leave without assistance. But his performance made the injury he sustained all the more worrisome.
They will be hoping he does not join the list of injured players that already includes Eduardo Camavinga, Eder Militao, and Dani Carvajal.
“Mbappe’s hamstrings are a little sore. “We will see [on Wednesday], but it does not appear serious,” Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, stated.
“We decided it would be best to replace him because he was unable to run and it caused him some pain.”
