Potter calls Chelsea’s dismissal the “greatest thing that happened to me.”

Graham Potter, the manager of West Ham, claims that being fired by Chelsea was “maybe the best thing that happened to me.”

In his fourth Premier League match since taking over in January, Potter will lead the Hammers back to his old club on Monday at 20:00 GMT.

Less than seven months after taking Thomas Tuchel’s place at Stamford Bridge in September 2022, the former Brighton manager was fired by Chelsea in April 2023.

Potter, however, stated that he wanted to grow from the experience and had no “bad feeling” for Chelsea.

“You know in a football life you are going to get ups and downs,” the 49-year-old, who led Chelsea to victory in 12 of his 31 games across all competitions, continued.

“I was afraid of losing my job. However, as I reflect about it now, it may have been the best thing that ever happened to me.

“Given my experience, perhaps the next ten to twenty years will be fantastic.

“I simply see it as a teaching moment. I still have many positive relationships with the people of Chelsea, therefore I do not have any animosity toward them.

“But all I can think about is the path I am on right now with West Ham at this fantastic club. Connecting with the fans, working with the squad, and creating something that we are very proud of and thrilled about.”

“I can only reflect on the past now and realize that. Like everyone else in life, you can experience both positive and negative things,” he continued.

“If you use them properly, they improve you, and I have done that, therefore I am thankful for the experience.”

After overcoming a deficit to gain a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa last Sunday. West Ham now has four points from their first three games under Potter.

With 27 points from 23 games, the Hammers are ranked 14th in the table, while Chelsea is in sixth place.
