Behind Japan’s $170 billion attempt to support the yen

Masato Kanda slept very little for a number of years.

He laughs, “Three hours a night is an exaggeration,” when speaking from Tokyo to the BBC.

“I went back to bed after being woken up after three hours of straight sleep, so if you add them up, I got a bit more.”

Why then was the schedule of this 59-year-old bureaucrat so harsh?

He served as Japan’s chief currency diplomat, or “yen czar,” and vice finance minister for international affairs until the end of July.

Keeping out currency market speculators who could destabilize one of the biggest economies in the world was crucial to the job.

In the past, governments have stepped in to devalue the Japanese yen. For exporters like Toyota and Sony, a weaker yen means lower prices for items sold to foreign consumers.

However, the collapse of the yen during Mr. Kanda’s administration raised the price of importing necessities like food and gasoline, leading to a crisis in the cost of living in a nation more accustomed to declining rather than rising costs.

The value of the yen relative to the US dollar dropped by more than 45% during his three years in the position.

Mr. Kanda launched an estimated Behind Japan’s $170 billion to bolster the currency in an attempt to stop the yen’s decline. This was Japan’s first currency intervention in nearly 25 years.

“The Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan are quite transparent. Economist Jesper Koll states, “They act when market volatility is excessive, rather than at a certain currency level.

Japan is currently being monitored by the US Treasury for possible currency manipulation.

Yet, Mr. Kanda contends that his actions did not amount to market manipulation.

“Markets need to follow fundamentals, but sometimes speculative activity causes them to swing excessively and fail to reflect fundamentals that are not subject to sudden changes,” he argues.

“We acted when it affected regular customers who had to buy fuel or food.”

For years, Japan’s weak economy prevented it from bearing the cost of borrowing, while nations like the US and the UK could hike interest rates to increase the value of their currencies.

According to University of Shizuoka professor Seijiro Takeshita, Japan was forced to intervene in the currency markets.

“In my view, it is the only thing they can do, even though it is not the right thing to do.”

The irony is that after the Bank of Japan shocked the markets with a rate hike and the nation elected a new prime minister, the value of the yen surged in recent months without Mr. Kanda or his successor doing anything.

Was the $170 billion attempt to support the yen a financial waste?

No, Mr. Kanda responds, stressing that it was never his intention but that his efforts did, in fact, result in a profit.

“It is not up to me to evaluate, but many feel our exchange management reduced the high amount of speculation,” he replies when asked if his measures were eventually successful.

He goes on, “The final arbiters should be markets or historians.”

Regarding Japan’s future, Mr. Kanda likewise strikes an upbeat note following decades of economic stagnation.

“We have a chance to return to a regular market economy as we are finally witnessing rising incomes and investments,” he argues.

An even more unexpected legacy for this “modest public servant” is that he became viral on social media in Japan, where people praised his ability to take the financial markets by surprise with a series of dance videos created by artificial intelligence.

Thai police apprehend the driver and begin identifying the victims of the 23-person school bus fire.

0

Elbahrain.net As family gathered in the city on Wednesday to assist in identifying their loved ones, Thai police detained the driver of a bus carrying young kids and teachers that caught fire and killed 23 in a suburban area of Bangkok.

On Tuesday, the bus, which was headed to Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi provinces for a school excursion, left Uthai Thani province, which is located approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) north of Bangkok, with 39 elementary and junior high school pupils and six teachers on board.

The bus was on a highway to the north of the capital when the fire broke out, and it spread so fast that many people were unable to flee.

The chief of the police forensic division, Trairong Phiwpan, reported that 23 dead had been found inside the bus. The burning vehicle was powered by natural gas, and it remained too hot to enter for hours, delaying the rescue efforts and confirmation of the overall number of deaths.

In order to offer their DNA samples for the identification process, the families were transported in vans from Uthai Thani to the forensic division of the Police General Hospital in Bangkok on Wednesday. The head of the Royal Thai Police’s assistant, Kornchai Klaiklung, informed reporters that the forensics team was making every effort to identify the victims.

The driver, who the police have named as Saman Chanput, turned himself in on Tuesday night, a few hours after the incident. According to the police, he has been charged with careless driving resulting in fatalities and injuries, neglecting to stop and assist others, and neglecting to report the collision.

According to Chayanont Meesati, deputy regional police chief, the driver told investigators he was operating the bus normally up until it lost balance at its front right tire, collided with another vehicle, and scratched a concrete highway barrier, creating sparks that set off the fire.

According to Chayanont, the driver fled after frantically trying to get hold of a fire extinguisher from another bus that was on the same trip, but he was unable to put out the fire and fled in fear.

According to the police, they are also looking into whether the bus business complied with all safety regulations.

The owner of the bus company, Songwit Chinnaboot, stated that the gas cylinders had met safety regulations and that the bus underwent mandatory safety inspections twice a year in an interview with Thai PBS, the public broadcaster. He also promised to do all in his power to make amends for the victims’ families.

According to the hospital, two of the three pupils that are admitted are seriously ill. A 7-year-old child sustained facial burns, and according to a surgeon, medical professionals were making every effort to preserve her vision.

In a post on the social media site X, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her sympathies and said the government will pay for the victims’ medical bills and assist their families. Later, she went to see the hospitalized injured.

Titans win their first game, Lions quarterback Jared Goff makes history in Detroit is victory over the Seahawks: NFL Week 4 Monday recap

Monday night marked the conclusion of Week 4 of the NFL season with another doubleheader.

One with two teams that are currently on a high and the other between two that are seeking to start their seasons seriously.

While Monday’s action lacked the late intensity, it was nonetheless filled with noteworthy observations and the making of history. Sunday’s action featured dramatic finishes. Titans win their first exceptional individual performances, and shocking outcomes.

The primary plots of the two games on Monday are as follows:

Jared Goff is having a wonderful, historic evening.

The way the Detroit Lions’ game against the Seattle Seahawks played out was probably too good to imagine.

Even if quarterback Jared Goff could have planned out how he wanted it to go. Titans win their first

In the 42-29 victory, the 29-year-old completed 18 of his 18 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns.

Including a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams. He did not have a single incomplete pass.

According to the NFL, Goff did this to become the first quarterback in.

NFL history to attempt over ten passes in a game without throwing an incompletion.

Goff did not even realize he had not missed a pass until.

ESPN’s Lisa Salters questioned him about his flawless accuracy that night. And when he finally gave it some thought, his response was subdued.

“Awesome. Regarding creating history, Goff commented, “Yeah, extremely awesome.” “Well, having it is kind of cool, but I am glad we won.”

In addition, midway through the third quarter, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St.

Brown threw Goff his first-ever touchdown pass on a trick play, making the evening even more memorable for him.

Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, expressed his dismay after handing Williams the game ball before learning of Goff’s historic night.

“I knew he was a really skilled player. Had no idea he was flawless. Was unaware that he was essentially 18-for-18,” Campbell said to the media. But I could tell he was a tremendously good player; I sensed it.

“I felt he was seeing the field, played with rhythm, and he had to move a little bit in the pocket. He really got his groove early on.” Just several enormous tosses. played with composure.

To defeat a confident Seahawks club that had not lost before.

The Lions required a complete team effort as they traveled to Ford Field. Titans win their first

With a score on the opening drive of the second half.

Seattle quarterback Geno Smith narrowed the deficit to seven points despite his heroic efforts to stay up with the home team.

Despite the fact that the teams traded points, Detroit is early lead allowed it to hold on and win.

Increasing its record to 3-1 while the Seahawks dropped to the same mark.

Smith threw 38-for-56 for 395 yards, one touchdown and an interception. .

While Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III recorded three rushing TDs.

According to the NFL, Aidan Hutchinson, who plays defense for the Detroit Red Wings.

Had the most pressures of any player in a game this season with a career-high 10.

Mike Macdonald, the first-year head coach of Seattle, mentioned his team’s room for growth after the setback.

Macdonald told reporters, “I would not say (playing Detroit on the road) is a litmus test; it just shows us we are not the team that we need to be at this juncture.” That is basically what it is. simply was not up to par.

“They took the necessary actions to win the game. They did a tremendous job, they had a terrific plan, and we came up short.

Thus, the question is how the football team should proceed going forward and take the next step given the short week we have ahead of us and the urgency well.

There is always urgency—of getting things fixed over the next few days.

Titans overcome injuries to win their first game of the year

Tennessee is finally off the mark this season, even though it was hardly a classic.

Tennessee lost starting quarterback Will Levis to injury in the first quarter of the Titans’ 31-12 victory over the Miami Dolphins, their first victory of the season.

After struggling for a first down, Levis sustained a shoulder injury, and the remainder of Monday’s game was promptly ruled out.

Levis will get an MRI for what is believed to be an acromioclavicular (AC) joint problem, according to head coach Bill Callahan.

The second-year quarterback continued his trend of turning the ball over in every game this season even in his little time on the field when he threw an interception.

However, Callahan stated afterward that Levis is the team’s starter quarterback when healthy, even if backup quarterback Mason Rudolph led the team to victory.

Callahan stated, “It was not based on anything other than his health and protecting him, especially with the bye week.” “My shoulder did not feel very well. The main reason was that I knew I would run the ball a lot and I did not want to put him back out there. When he is well and we are prepared to go, though, he is our starter.

After Rudolph took Levis’ spot, the seasoned backup quarterback led seven touchdown drives despite only throwing 9 of 17 passes for 85 yards.

Nick Folk, the kicker for the Titans, was flawless that night, making all five of his field goals and all of his extra points.

Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, Tennessee’s two running backs, combined for 127 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Due to his continued absence due to a concussion, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the Dolphins to another lackluster performance.

Instead of starting Tagovailoa, Miami went with Tyler Huntley.

Who was inconsistent and only completed 14 of his 22 passes for 96 yards. He did run for the team’s sole score of the night midway through the fourth quarter.

On Monday, the Dolphins created history of their own by going into the first four games of the season without a lead.

A feat last accomplished by the Cleveland Browns in 2017.

Jason Sanders’ game-winning field goal with seconds remaining gave Miami its lone victory.

A 20-17 triumph over the dreadful Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.

Italy and Switzerland have agreed to shift their shared border in the Alps. Here’s why

Switzerland and Italy have

When the glaciers that define the border melted, parts of the border between Switzerland and Italy have to be redrawn.

This is just one more example of how drastically human activity is changing the world through the burning of fossil fuels.

The two countries have agreed to modify the border below the famous Matterhorn Peak, one of the highest peaks in the Alps, which overlooks Zermatt, a major ski resort.

Although national boundaries are often considered fixed, much of the Switzerland and Italy have border is defined by glaciers and snowfields. The Swiss government said in a statement on Friday that.

With the melting of glaciers, these natural features change and redefine national borders.’

The border adjustment was agreed in 2023, and on Friday the Swiss government formally accepted the move.

Wnder Italy, the approval process is now underway.

The effects of rapid global warming in Europe are mainly visible on its glaciers.

Glaciers are melting at a staggering rate in Switzerland. Glaciers in the country lost 4% of their volume last year, which is second only to losing 6% by 2022.

He told CNN that ‘despite significant snowfall in winter that is expected to lighten the load, glaciers continue to lose ice at a high rate in 2024.’ ‘Small glaciers are melting, and some glaciers are almost falling apart.’

Up to half of the world’s glaciers may be lost by 2100, even with the most aggressive climate action plans. This has a range of effects.

It makes landscapes more unstable, prone to severe landslides and collapses. A glacier in the Italian Alps collapsed in 2022, killing eleven people.

Grim discoveries are being made as the glacier recedes. The body of a mountaineer who vanished while climbing near the Matterhorn 37 years earlier was found last year.

Glaciers lose their essential ability to contribute freshwater as they recede, which can exacerbate water shortages during heatwaves.

According to Huss, redrawing the country’s borders ‘is one simple side effect’ of melting glaciers.

However, the profound changes caused by global warming will become much clearer when people can understand how it ‘directly affects our world map,’ he continued.

After years of waiting. the fantasy cruise ship finally departed, but stopped to ‘take care of paperwork’.

The ship was supposed to make the three-and-a-half-year journey four months ago.

After several delays, Villa Vie Odyssey finally departed from Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Monday night.

However, the ship’s initial excitement to leave the harbour and sail the vast waters, was dashed by additional delays while waiting for the final ‘paperwork’.

After months of misfortune, the Fred. Olsen Cruise set sail from Belfast at approximately 11:30pm on 30 September 2024.

Shortly before Odyssey departed, a passenger, Lanette Canen, exclaimed, ‘We are so happy and relieved.’ ‘We are now practising safety drills at our muster station. [Villa Vie] did it! Here, there are only smiles.

The departure from the harbour was a welcome diversion from a course that had taken several detours as residential shipping company Villa Vie Residences prepared to embark on its long-term journey.

Finally starting the journey ‘feels great,’ Villa Vie CEO Mike Petterson said Monday night.

However, it hasn’t been easy. ‘I turned fifteen in just six months. Petterson said, ‘I felt like I had just given birth to a child.’

According to nautical tracking website Vesselfinder, Villa Vie Odyssey anchored off the coast of Belfast on Tuesday. According to the Belfast Harbour website, the ship was scheduled to depart at 11pm on that day.

Petterson told CNN, ‘Until the final administrative documentation is signed, we will remain in the general Belfast area.’

Petterson previously attributed the delay in his departure to extended certification procedures. Although built in 1993, the vessel, formerly known as Braemar, meets the standards of a new ship, according to Petterson.

The ship has been awaiting Coast Guard approval since completing its final sea trials earlier this month, and was finally approved a few days ago.

Due to the delay, passengers will have to wait until May to board. As time passed, disputes and frustrations arose.

After flying home, the passengers waited. Some, like Canen and his travelling companion Johan Bodin, continued on during the ship’s layover in Belfast.

The couple, who had lived in Hawaii, paid $100,000 for their room, which would be theirs for the duration of the ship’s stay, which was expected to last 15 years. After that, they pay $3,500 per month to live on the ship. The cost changes based on cabin type and other variables.

The problem with prolonged cruise plans is not unique to Villa Vie. In 2023, Life at Sea Cruises, a

Facts on the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah

Elbahrain.net After a week of notable escalation in their protracted dispute, Israel and Hezbollah seem to be heading towards an all-out war that may extend to the rest of the region.

Following numerous days of airstrikes in southern Lebanon and Beirut, Israel declared that its army has started “limited, restricted, and targeted ground attacks” against Hezbollah.

Israel killed the leader of the Shia Islamist organization, Hassan Nasrallah, on Friday in a massive airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, dealing a crushing blow to the organization.

After nearly a year of cross-border hostilities brought on by the Gaza War, Israel has gone on the attack, claiming it wants to guarantee the safe return of border region residents who have been forced to flee their homes due to Hezbollah bombings.

Hezbollah has not been vanquished, despite its weakness. The gang is still thought to have a sizable stockpile of long-range missiles and is continuously firing rockets into northern Israel.

This is a quick overview of the several events that have occurred recently.

Israel mounts ground operation in southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed what was widely anticipated, that it was beginning a ground incursion into Lebanon, in a statement that was posted at 2:00 local time on Tuesday morning.

“Located in villages close to the border and represent an imminent threat to Israeli residents in northern Israel,” according to the IDF, are its planned targets.

The mobilization of reservists and the sighting of Israeli tanks near the Lebanese border preceded the announcement.

According to reports, the commander of the military’s Northern Command is in favor of establishing a buffer zone inside southern Lebanon in order to keep Hezbollah soldiers and equipment away from the border and for Israel to repatriate 60,000 inhabitants to houses they had to flee about a year ago.

Prior to this, US media reported that Israeli commandos in small teams had been conducting transborder incursions for brief periods of time.

Following a string of attacks against Hezbollah, an incursion into Lebanon
Over a dozen key leaders have been killed and thousands of weapons appear to have been destroyed by Israel in airstrikes during the massive devastation done on Hezbollah in recent weeks. It was also held accountable for the walkie-talkie and pager explosions that murdered, maimed, or blinded thousands of Hezbollah members. The death of Hassan Nasrallah, according to BBC International Editor Jeremy Bowen, is the greatest setback of all.

He was the beating heart of Hezbollah for over thirty years. He transformed it into a military force with Iranian finance, training, and weaponry. As a result of his attacks, Israel was forced to end its 22-year occupation of southern Lebanon in 2000. In 2006, he waged a month-long war that left Israel paralyzed.

The death of Nasrallah is a major win for Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that his country was “winning” the struggle against those who wished to see it destroyed in a bold speech delivered to the UN on Friday. He had already given the go-ahead for the attack that murdered Nasrallah.

On the eve of the 75th birthday of Communist China, Xi promises “reunification” with Taiwan.

0

Elbahrain.net On the day of Communist China’s 75th birthday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping restated his commitment to achieving “reunification” with Taiwan, as Beijing displayed its military might ahead of the national holiday.

Xi emphasized in his speech at a state dinner honoring the People’s Republic’s foundation on Monday his commitment to achieving the “full reunion of the motherland.”

It is an unstoppable trend, a source of morality, and the people’s shared goal. According to state-run news agency Xinhua, he told the thousands of people present in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, “No one can stop the march of history.”

Despite never having had authority over Taiwan, China’s ruling Communist Party declares it to be its own and has threatened to “reunify” with the democratic republic, using force if necessary.

However, a large portion of the island’s population considers itself to be uniquely Taiwanese and does not wish to join Communist China.

Since the Chinese Civil War ended in 1949, the two sides have been governed by independent administrations. On October 1, 1949, the communists established the People’s Republic of China in Beijing, driving the defeated nationalists to Taiwan and shifting the Republic of China’s capital from the mainland to Taipei.

Although Xi, China’s most powerful leader in decades, has increased rhetoric and aggression toward the democratic island, increasing tensions across the strait and stoking fears of a military conflict, successive Chinese presidents have pledged to seize control of Taiwan eventually.

China considers Taiwan to be its holy land. “People on both sides of the strait are united by blood, and blood is thicker than water,” Xi declared at the banquet, which was attended by almost 3,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries, officials, and former party leaders.

He also demanded the development of “spiritual peace among countrymen on both sides” as well as more extensive cultural and commercial ties across the Taiwan Strait.

Xi declared, “(We must) forcefully reject separatist efforts that call for Taiwan independence.”

Beijing has termed Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te a “dangerous separatist,” and tensions have ratcheted up since Lai’s inauguration in May, during which he called on China to end its intimidation of Taiwan.

Taiwanese officials report that Beijing has stepped up military exercises around the island in recent months, including ones in May that it claimed were intended to test its capacity to “seize power” over the territory.

The Defense Ministry of Taiwan declared itself on alert on Sunday following the discovery of “several waves” of missile shooting deep within China’s interior.

In a statement, the ministry stated that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Rocket Force fired the missiles in the interior regions of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Qinghai, and Xinjiang. Taiwan’s air defense forces have also “kept a high degree of vigilance and enhanced their alert.”

It happened a few days after China, in the midst of heightened tensions in the region, shot an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean for the first time in 44 years in a rare public test, according to analysts.

China and the US, which have informal but close ties with Taipei and are legally obligated to provide the island with defense weapons, are at odds over the Taiwan dispute, which has grown to be a major concern.

The largest aid package that the US has ever given Taiwan, $567 million in military support was approved by US President Joe Biden on Sunday. According to a statement from the White House, the funds will go toward both “military education and training” and defense-related items.

Following Hezbollah assaults Netanyahu

A recent opinion poll indicates that Benjamin Netanyahu’s popularity.

Which had taken a hit following the Hamas attacks on October 7.

Has recovered thanks to his nation’s military victories over Hezbollah.

A widely circulated photo shows the Israeli prime minister in New York ordering the most significant of these.

The long-term leader of the Lebanese armed group, Hassan Nasrallah, to be killed.

If there were a general election, the Israeli PM’s Likud party would gain more seats than any other.

According to a poll for Israel’s Channel 12 that was released on Sunday night.

It did not, however, indicate that he would win in the end.

Rather, it indicated that the opposition parties would have more MPs, which would allow them to form a coalition.

Fortunately for Netanyahu, the prime minister should be strengthened by the addition of Gideon Saar.

His erstwhile political foe, to his turbulent coalition cabinet on Sunday.

“We will collaborate closely, and I plan to ask for his support in the arenas that affect how the battle is fought,” Netanyahu declared.

Saar will serve as a minister without portfolio with a seat in the Security Cabinet.

The body supervising the management of the battle against Israel’s regional foes.

With his four-seat party now part of the government, Netanyahu has a far stronger majority of 68 seats in the 120-seat parliament.

Netanyahu is leading again.

In recent weeks, there had been rumors that Saar, who is somewhat less experienced, might take over Yoav Gallant’s, the popular and seasoned former military general, role as defense minister.

That action appeared to be abandoned, though, when Israel launched a series of significant strikes against Hezbollah.

According to Netanyahu, Itamar Ben Gvir, his minister of national security, has less influence now that the government is in a different configuration.

The far-right winger has frequently vowed to pull down the coalition if it agrees to a permanent ceasefire with Hezbollah or proceeds with a “reckless” plan to stop the war in Gaza and return home hostages.

Netanyahu now has more leeway because the alliance may continue without Ben Gvir’s Jewish Power party’s six seats.

Saar, who was formerly regarded as a rising star in the Likud party, abandoned the group and turned became one of the prime minister’s most outspoken detractors, claiming that Netanyahu should not hold office while facing corruption allegations. He has promoted unity by framing his choice to join the government as an act of patriotism.

However, he has been strongly condemned by some Israeli critics who view him as operating cynically in his own self-interest.

“Saar’s decision to join the government is certainly a painful blow to a large number of Israelis who think that Netanyahu needs to go, and not just because he is being tried on criminal charges, and not just because he is the most corrupt, hedonistic and lying prime minister Israel has ever had,” said Yedioth Ahronoth columnist, Sima Kadmon.

The worst administration to have served in Israel will be stabilized and strengthened by his conduct, in her opinion, to the point where the October 2026 election date that was originally proposed now seems reasonable.

Undoubtedly, the additional seats may also aid in resolving another issue confronting Israel’s most extreme right-wing administration to date.

Divisions have emerged over the passing of a new military conscription law during this delicate time of conflict, when the military is desperately needing to increase the size of its forces.

In June, the Israeli Supreme Court made a ruling requiring the state to start enlisting ultra-Orthodox Jewish seminary students. They have always been excluded, and two ultra-Orthodox parties that are essential to the alliance fiercely oppose this change.

In July, Yoav Gallant approved a plan to start distributing draft notifications to 1,000 ultra-Orthodox youths aged 18 to 26.

This move furthered his personal breach with the prime minister.

The longest-serving leader of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu

Is a cunning political strategist, but at the close of the previous year, surveys showed a sharp decline in support for his party.

His reputation as “Mr Security” suffered greatly during the October 7 attacks.

Which were the bloodiest day in Israeli history and which shocked the world’s top intelligence agencies and the most well-equipped military in the area into taking hours to respond.

But by August, surveys of public opinion indicated that the prime minister was starting to recover.

That was in spite of the fact that the invasion of Gaza ended up becoming Israel’s longest war ever.

With no indication that its goals—to destroy Hamas completely and free Israel’s surviving hostages—were achieved.

According to a recent poll, Likud could win up to 25 seats. It is anticipated that opposition parties will gain 66 seats and coalition parties would obtain 49 seats overall.

Based on research conducted for Channel 12, it can be inferred that Netanyahu continues to be the front-runner for prime minister, with 38% of voters endorsing him over his opponent, Yair Lapid, who is supported by 27%.

As Israel’s multi-front conflict approaches a turning point, a lot of Israeli politics rest on what transpires next.

Despite Israel’s avowed intention of invading southern Lebanon by land.

The repercussions are uncertain in the event that Iran, Hezbollah’s principal ally, launches an attack.

Israel appears more and more alone on the global scene.

Perhaps the greatest challenge to Netanyahu’s fortitude is still to come.

The world’s highest skyscraper is located in Dubai. It is currently also building the second-tallest.

The tallest tower in the world is already located amid Dubai’s enormous skyline. It will soon welcome the second-tallest person in the world as well.

While its developer awaiting approval from Dubai authorities, particularly the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Which is engaged in planning for “supertall” buildings, the Burj Azizi’s exact height was not revealed when construction first began in January of this year.

But on Wednesday, the real estate company Azizi Developments revealed that its skyscraper.

Which would be an incredible 725 meters (2,379 feet) tall, will soar over all but one of the nearby sites.

Azizi Developments chairman and founder Mirwais Azizi told CNN in a written statement.

We had plans for two designs one for the taller, now-authorized 725 meters, and the other for the initially allowed height of 526 meters.

When the developer started the preparation work earlier this year, it kept its “options open for both situations.

But now that the building’s more ambitious proposal has been approved, more work is well started on the piling and foundations, according to Azizi.

The 131-story tower will have a seven-floor “vertical” shopping center, an all-suite luxury hotel, and flats.

Situated in Dubai’s World Trade Center neighborhood on Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Azizi will remain over 340 feet shorter than the nearby Burj Khalifa, which is 2,717 feet tall.

However, it will easily surpass Marina 101 (1,394 feet), the current holder of the title of second-tallest in the city, in local competition.

When completed, it will also surpass Merdeka 118 in Malaysia, which is 2,227 feet tall, as the second-tallest building in the world.

The skyscraper is predicted to set many records, including the world’s tallest hotel lobby (on level 11), the world’s highest nightclub (on level 126) and the world’s highest observation deck (on level 130), according to Azizi Developments.

According to the developer, the skyscraper will also set records for the tallest restaurant in Dubai.

(At.mosphere, located on the 122nd story, will be higher than the Burj Khalifa’s 122nd floor restaurant).

And the highest hotel room in the city, located on the 118th floor of the tower.

Azizi stated in a press statement that more than 6 billion dirham ($1.6 billion) had been invested in the project.

The city is accustomed to magnificent buildings. Many more are in the process of being built.

When the Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower opens in 2027, it aims to be the highest residential clock tower in the world.

Ciel Dubai Marina, which is due to be finished later this year, is anticipated to be the tallest hotel in the world.

At 1,952 feet, the Burj Binghatti Jacob & Co Residences is expected to become the third tallest building in Dubai and the tallest residential structure in the world.

Apartments at Burj Azizi are anticipated to go on sale in February 2025, with completion scheduled for 2028.
