My son’s not a monster, says Diddy’s mother

0

Elbahrain.net Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother has said she is “devastated and profoundly saddened” by the allegations levelled against her son, but that they are “lies”.

The musician, known for hits like 1997’s I’ll Be Missing You, was arrested on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering last month. He is currently being held in a Manhattan detention centre after being denied bail.

In a statement, Janice Small Combs defended her son, saying that although he had “made mistakes in the past, as we all have”, he is “not the monster they have painted him to be”.

“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” she wrote.

The statement was attributed to Ms Small Combs and the Combs family, and was issued by her lawyer, Natlie G Figgers.

It came five days after it was revealed that Mr Combs could face lawsuits from more than 100 additional accusers, both men and women, for alleged sexual assault, rape and sexual exploitation.

The star’s lawyer have denied these and all previous charges, calling them “false and defamatory”.

He has faced a number of cases since last year, when his former partner Cassie Ventura accused him of rape and abuse.

Mr Combs denied the allegations, and the case was settled out of court a day after being filed.

However, he was subsequently sued by 12 other women, many of whom accused the rapper of drugging and assaulting them.

Federal agents raided his properties in March as authorities built a criminal case against the star.

Then in May, a video of Mr Combs physically assaulting Ms Ventura in a hotel room in 2016 was leaked to the press.

In her statement, the Ms Small Combs referenced the video, saying she was “not here to portray my son as perfect because he is not”.

“My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise,” she said.

“Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed.

“This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.”

Mr Combs had previously apologised for the incident that was caught on film, saying: “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”

Here’s What to Know about Trump’s VP Pick, J.D. Vance

0

ELBAHRAIN.NET What to Know about Trump’s VP Pick – Former president Donald Trump has picked his running mate—Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.

In a post shared to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday, Trump said that “after lengthy deliberation
and thought” he has decided that Vance is “the person best suited to assume the position of Vice
President of the United States.”

So, who is J.D. Vance?

J.D. Vance’s Far-Right Social Agenda

Vance rose to prominence with his 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which depicted his childhood growing up
surrounded by poverty and addiction in Jackson, Kentucky, and Middletown, Ohio.
At that time, Vance was a “Never Trump” conservative who once referred to Trump
as “reprehensible” and “noxious,” and suggested he “might be America’s Hitler.”

But ahead of his successful 2022 run for the US Senate, Vance refashioned himself as one of Trump’s most outspoken
defenders. Since that reversal, Vance has become one of the most extreme politicians in the country, particularly on social issues.

He has compared abortion to murder and slavery, has said women should be “forced to bring a
child to term” in cases of rape and incest, opposes exceptions to abortion bans in cases of rape and incest,
and has expressed support for a nationwide abortion ban.

Vance has also railed against divorce. While speaking at Pacifica Christian High School in California in 2021,
Vance spoke of his grandparents who raised him, applauding the fact that they never separated, even though
they had an “incredibly chaotic marriage.” He even suggested that people in “violent” marriages should try to work things out.

What to Know about Trump’s VP Pick

Vance further told a Catholic magazine in 2021 that he wants to ban pornography, stating: “
I think the combination of porn and abortion has basically created a really lonely, isolated generation
that isn’t getting married, they’re not having families, and they’re actually not even totally sure
how to interact with each other.”

Gillian Branstetter, a communications strategist at the ACLU, highlighted what Vance’s stances on these issues say about him.

“There is no part of your life, your body, or your family that J.D.
Vance doesn’t want to control—especially if, when, or how you have children and how you raise them,”
Branstetter wrote on X, previously known as Twitter. “Your marriage, your sex life, the books you read, and the media you consume—he wants it all.”

Vance further suggested the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas was partly due to
“fatherlessness,” blamed America’s issues on the “childless left,” and referred to Democrats as “childless cat ladies.”

J.D. Vance

He has also said in the past that it’s the government’s job to encourage Americans to have more children. At multiple forums in 2021, Vance touted a program in Hungary that awards loans to couples who get married before the bride’s 41st birthday—with a third of the loans becoming forgivable if the couple goes on to have two children, and the whole debt wiped out if they have three. Vance has said that the US should consider implementing a similar program.

In order to achieve his desired future for the country, Vance has been open about being willing to override democracy and the popular will of Americans.

He’s said he would have refused to certify the 2020 presidential election results, suggested Trump should ignore Supreme Court rulings that he disagrees with, and has called for an authoritarian takeover of American universities to control what is taught in

An Economic Populist or a Clever Politician?

On economic issues, Vance—a former venture capitalist—has similarly reinvented himself in recent years, working to portray himself as a populist who supports tariffs on trade, backs efforts to claw back pay from executives of failed banks, and opposes cuts to Social Security.

But before his reinvention, Vance wrote in 2010 that Social Security and Medicare were among the biggest drivers of federal budget deficits and lamented that neither Democrats nor Republicans were willing to make deep cuts to the programs. He also helped lobbyists weaken his own rail safety bill after last year’s train derailment and chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio.

Notably, Vance also owes his political career to Big Tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who spent $15 million to help elect him in 2022 and once wrote that he “no longer believe[s] that freedom and democracy are compatible.” Vance also has close ties to Big Pharma, Big Oil, and has the support of countless corporate CEOs.

Vance Accepts Trump’s Selection

In the post announcing Vance as his running mate, Trump said that Vance “honorably served our country in the Marine Corps” and that he “graduated from Ohio State University in two years” before attending Yale Law School.

Trump also referenced Vance’s memoir, saying that it “championed the hardworking men and women of our country” and said that Vance has had a “successful business career in technology and finance.”

Trump added that during this campaign, Vance will be “strongly focused” on “American workers and farmers.”

“As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” the former president said on Truth Social.

Vance accepted his party’s formal nomination Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he walked out to Merle Haggard’s “America First.”

Maguire: Players need to accept accountability for Man Utd’s performance.

Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, believes that although it is simple for the team’s players to “blame the staff and tactics,” they “have to do better” as manager Erik ten Hag faces mounting criticism.

After six top-flight games this season—two victories, three losses, and one draw—the Old Trafford team is presently ranked 14th in the Premier League.

On Sunday at 14:00 BST, they travel to play Aston Villa. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s co-owner, has stated that it is “not my call” what will happen to Ten Hag going forward.

England center-back Maguire stated, “I know what it is about; this is my sixth season now.”

“I am aware that you have trying times and that everyone puts too much pressure on you.

“We have shown the manager over the past few seasons that, when we play well, we can defeat anybody. However, consistency has been the issue, and we must begin demonstrating that.”

United enters the match at Villa Park fresh off a 3-0 home league loss to Tottenham and a 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto on Thursday, in which Maguire netted a late equalizer.

In 24 games played under Ten Hag, they have now given up three or more goals.

“No, that is plainly not up to par. We definitely need to take action,” Maguire, 31, continued.

However, it is simple for a football player to look around and place the blame on teammates, coaches, or strategies. You must examine yourself.

“You have to accept responsibility, and in these trying times, we all need to do better.”

“We think our play is better than it was last season.”

At Villa Park in February, United, the team who defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final the previous season, triumphed 2-1.

On the other hand, their goal differential of -1 caused them to finish ninth in the Premier League.

Despite having scored five goals and given up eight goals so far this season, Ten Hag’s team has a -3 goal differential, but Maguire believes they are “performing better than previous season.”

Maguire remarked, “We have to believe in ourselves and draw that belief from our performance at Villa Park last season.”

“There have not been any outcomes. It is clear that the performance against Spurs was awful. Other than that, I think there ought to be more points available.

“But since they are not, we must take action, beginning on Sunday. A challenging game, but what a fantastic location.”

Gordon’s penalty is saved by Pickford as Everton and Newcastle draw.

Gordon’s penalty saved Pickford

Both Everton and Newcastle United were left with frustration following their acrimonious draw at Goodison Park.

In an intense match, Newcastle United had the better possession of the ball but wasted a chance in the first half when Anthony Gordon.

A former Everton player, saw England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford save his penalty.

Everton supporters had been taunting Gordon from the opening whistle.

But he lost the opportunity to put an end to their abuse when Pickford dived to his left to save his awful spot-kick after James Tarkowski.

Was rightfully sent off for carelessly dragging Sandro Tonali to the ground during a corner.

In a tense match, both teams were trying to find the breakthrough.

Tonali’s attempt was taken off the line by Iliman Ndiaye.

While Everton had earlier seen an Abdoulaye Doucoure header ruled out for offside Gordon’s penalty saved Pickford.

Late in the game, Gordon missed yet another excellent opportunity, and Everton wasted another one when substitute Idrissa.

Gueye blazed over an open goal after Newcastle keeper Nick Pope had denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Whose claims for a penalty were rejected by referee Craig Pawson after he clashed with defender Dan Burn chasing the rebound.

Pickford, once more, Everton’s hero

Gordon of Newcastle United and Everton goalie Gordon’s penalty saved Pickford were the main protagonists in a drama.

That brought life to a game that was intensely ambitious but woefully devoid of any sort of superior play.

Because of his connections to Sunderland, a rival team on Wearside, Pickford has long been a target for Newcastle United supporters.

However, he reacted with a strong showing that enabled Everton to record their first Premier League clean sheet of the year.

The key moment came in the 35th minute when the video assistant referee (VAR) spotted Everton defender Tarkowski—who.

Plays a high-risk game in the area too frequently—foolishly attempting to rip the shirt off Tonali’s back. Earning Newcastle United a penalty.

When Pickford dove to his left to save a shoddy attempt, Everton supporters seized.

The chance to further inflict further pain on their former star.

Pickford appeared to enjoy the psychological struggle with Gordon as he waited to take the penalty.

The home crowd applauded the goalkeeper, who played flawlessly the entire game and made additional significant saves in the second half.

Everton will take this point and the clean sheet, but their style lacks threat and ambition.

And Calvert-Lewin is frequently a frustrated man who was left to pursue lost causes by himself far too frequently.

Late in that match against Burn, the striker made a fruitless plea for a penalty kick.

But VAR determined that he had kicked the Newcastle defender in the back of the leg.

Thus referee Craig Pawson did not step in.

Fortunately for Sean Dyche, Pickford has shown himself to be up to the task in previous campaigns.

Gordon returns to Goodison Park in misery.

It was a terrible day for the forward, who rose to prominence at Goodison Park.

Unsurprisingly, Gordon faced a lot of taunts from the start.

When rumors of a summer transfer to Anfield surfaced, he revealed that he had been a lifetime Liverpool supporter.

Which did not assist his case.

The way Gordon left the Finch Farm training facility in January 2023 and returned to complete.

A £45 million deal to Tyneside left Everton supporters never forgiving him.

He may have been conscious of the pressure and hostility directed at him when he missed the penalty in the 35th minute.

But it was a nightmarish moment for him because he lacked the composure he.

Displayed when he equalized against Manchester City at St. James’ Park.

It was an uninspired and uncharacteristic effort.

Gordon’s penalty saved Pickford

Who is usually so graceful with the ball, appeared to be a good player who was trying too hard. The home crowd was thrilled when Gordon slipped in the first half while no one was close by. Later on, when he was clean through, he blazed over from the angle, but he wasted the opportunity.

Everything contributed to the ambiance and offered a delightful side story.

In a game that was intense but ended in a draw that will not stick in your memory for very long.

Given their level of possession, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will be upset that his.

Team was unable to apply consistent pressure or generate clear-cut opportunities.

Gordon began the game in a central role, lying deep but having little impact.

Underscoring Howe’s lack of options for the injured primary striker Alexander Isak.

Harvey Barnes was also used in that area after the half.

Newcastle would prefer that Isak return sooner rather than later.

And Howe would be happy to have the injured Callum Wilson ready at some point.

Overall, this was a frustrating game for the players, particularly Gordon, and the management of Newcastle.

City boss Guardiola was full of praise for opposite number Marco Silva and the outstanding job he has done at Fulham before the game.

But Fulham traditionally struggle in this fixture.

In fact they had lost their last 16 – now 17 – meetings with City.

The longest losing run one English league side has ever had against another.

However the Cottagers caused City more problems than some of the world’s best teams manage at Etihad Stadium.

Their opening goal was outstanding, with Jimenez’s sensational backheel enabling former Manchester United player Pereira to score.

Traore’s lack of end product probably cost him a career at the very top level with Barcelona.

Two one-on-ones ended up going straight to Ederson.

And the other big chance was one he spooned over the bar from about 10 yards.

Fulham are seventh in the table following only their second defeat of the season and Silva will have seen plenty of reasons to be confident here.

Prior to the match, City manager boss Guardiola was showered his opposing number.

Marco Silva, with accolades for his excellent work at Fulham.

However, Fulham has never fared well in this match.

As a matter of fact, they had dropped their previous 16 – and currently 17 – encounters with City.

Marking the greatest losing streak in English league history.

At Etihad Stadium, though, the Cottagers gave City more issues than some of the top clubs in the globe.

They scored their first goal after an incredible backheel from Jimenez, which set up former Manchester United star Pereira.

Traore’s poor performance likely cost him a championship career with Barcelona.

Ederson ended up taking two one-on-ones straight to him, and his second major opportunity came from a spooned shot over the bar from about ten yards out.

With just two losses this season, Fulham is currently sixth in the standings, so Silva should have plenty of reasons to be optimistic

This little robot is helping sick children attend school

0

Elbahrain.net When children are chronically ill and unable to attend school, it’s not just the illness that can be debilitating — the separation from the classroom and friends can also take a toll.

For young people undergoing long-term treatment or struggling with mental health issues, Norwegian company No Isolation developed the AV1 robot, which can take a child’s place in class, serving as their eyes, ears, and voice, and helping them stay connected with their classmates.

The AV1 looks like a blank, simplified version of a human head and torso. It can rotate 360 degrees and is fitted with a camera, microphone and speaker. Teachers place it on a classroom desk and the student controls it remotely using an app, for which they are given a unique password.

“They can tap or swipe their finger around the screen to look at different corners of the classroom,” said Florence Salisbury, marketing director for No Isolation. The student can talk to the teacher or their classmates through the speaker, and the app has a “raise hand” option that makes a light flash on the robot’s head. They can also select emojis that display in the robot’s eyes.

Salisbury says there are 3,000 active AV1 units in 17 countries, mostly in the UK and Germany, both of which have over 1,000 of the robots in operation.

In the UK, schools can rent the AV1 for around £150 ($200) per month, or opt for a one-time purchase for £3,700 (just under $4,960), with an additional service package of £780 (around $1,045) annually.

Salisbury says that perhaps the robot’s biggest benefit is its ability to maintain social bonds. She shared the story of a 15-year-old student in Warwickshire, England, using AV1 whose friends take the robot to lunch with them, keeping him included in their social circle.

“During a long absence, where classmates might not see their friend for an extended period, this connection to school really becomes a lifeline for that student, especially for those with a medical condition,” Salisbury said.

According to the most recent government statistics, more than 19% of students in England were persistently absent from school in the autumn of 2023/24, 7.8% due to illness alone, which is higher than pre-pandemic levels.

During the Covid pandemic, remote learning became the norm, but as students returned to school, for many it’s no longer an option. AV1 was launched before the pandemic, but some schools have reported using the robots to help students who have struggled to reintegrate with the classroom environment.

“They make the child important”
The UK’s Chartwell Cancer Trust has a supply of 25 AV1 robots it provides to children with serious illness. Founding trustee Michael Douglas told CNN that the robots enable children to stay engaged with their education even while in intensive care. “They are loved by the parents and make a real difference,” he said. “They make the child important.”

But he acknowledged that there can be administrative challenges around their use and that “red tape can be a real issue” when trying to get the AV1 system into schools or hospitals.

He added that some schools may also struggle to maintain the necessary technical infrastructure for seamless operation, because of weak Wi-Fi or mobile signal dark spots.

Technical training
In June, research published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Digital Health, examining the use of the AV1 in Germany and of the OriHime avatar robot in Japan, found the technologies “bear high potential for children to stay socially and educationally connected.”

However, it added that there was a need to establish structures to give equal access to avatar technologies, and that training sessions for teachers on the technical and social aspects of the robots are important for successful implementation.

Last August, No Isolation rolled out AV1 Academy, a library of training materials and resources aimed at improving the usability of the robot.

According to Salisbury, the AV1 is designed with robust privacy features. No personal data is collected, and the app prevents screenshots or recordings. Encryption secures the livestream, and only one device can connect at a time, with the robot’s head and eyes lighting up to signal active use.

There are other avatar robots on the market and some, like VGo and Buddy, have wheels and can move around the school or workplace, while some have a screen that shows the user’s face. Salisbury said that not having wheels is more practical for AV1, and weighing around 1 kilogram, the robot is easy for teachers or students to move between classes in a bespoke backpack.

She added that the absence of a screen showing the child’s face can also be an advantage. “Removing that pressure to be on camera, we’ve seen, increases the likelihood of the robot being used for students with emotionally based school avoidance,” Salisbury said.

Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon the ‘most intense aerial campaign’ outside Gaza in last two decades

0

Elbahrain.net Israel has pummeled Lebanon with an unprecedented airstrike campaign in less than three weeks, killing over 1,400 people, injuring nearly 7,500 others and displacing more than one million people from their homes, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

The bombardment, which Israel says is targeting Hezbollah strongholds in the country, marks the world’s “most intense aerial campaign” outside of Gaza in the last two decades, according to the conflict monitoring group Airwars.

Israel’s strikes are occurring at “a level and intensity that Israel’s own allies just simply would not have carried out in the last 20 years,” Emily Tripp, director of the UK-based group, told CNN. She pointed to the United States-led military campaign against ISIS in 2017, where, at the height of the battle for Raqqa – the terror group’s de facto capital – 500 munitions were deployed in a single day.

Over the course of two days, on September 24 and September 25, the Israel military said it used 2,000 munitions and carried out 3,000 strikes.

In comparison, for most of America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan, the US carried out less than 3,000 strikes a year, barring the first year of the invasion, where around 6,500 strikes were carried out – according to data from Airwars analyzed by CNN.

“This isn’t normal,” Tripp said of both the scale and size of Israel’s strikes on Lebanon. While Israel’s air campaign is extremely “unusual,” Tripp said its assault on Gaza over the last year – where nearly 60% of buildings are estimated to have been damaged from Israeli strikes – have normalized such mass assaults.

Israel says it takes steps to minimize civilian harm, like making phone calls and sending text messages to residents in buildings designated for attack. Human rights groups like Amnesty International say such warnings do not absolve Israel of responsibilities under international humanitarian law to limit civilian harm.

CNN has previously reported on Israel’s devastating use of 2,000-pound bombs, which experts blame for the high death toll in Gaza and appear to have been deployed in the airstrikes that killed Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in Lebanon. The massive munitions have impacted civilian infrastructure in Gaza and now Lebanon.

CNN teams in Beirut this week found that many Israeli strikes happened without prior warning. Israel also sends evacuation orders by text in the middle of the night, when most people are sleeping.

As a result, the death toll in Lebanon continues to rise, with a fifth of its population now displaced.

Hezbollah and Israel have consistently been exchanging fire since October 8, the day after the Hamas-led attack on Israel, in which more than 1,200 people were killed and 250 taken hostage. Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, has said that it will not stop striking Israel until a ceasefire in Gaza – where the Israeli bombardment has killed more than 41,000 people in the past year, according to the ministry of health in the territory – is reached.

The majority of the fire exchanged between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of the war has come from Israeli strikes, drones, shelling and missiles on Lebanese territory, according to data from ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data), an organization that collects data on violent conflict.

Israel has launched nearly 9,000 attacks into Lebanon since October 8; Hezbollah launched 1,500 attacks in that same time frame, according to the ACLED data.

On September 25, Israel further escalated its air campaign with an intense barrage of strikes across swathes of Lebanon, marking the deadliest day for Lebanon since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war – and a turning point in the current conflict.

While most of Israel’s airstrikes over the past year have targeted southern Lebanon, Israel has also ramped up its attacks on Lebanon’s capital in recent weeks, with multiple airstrikes in southern Beirut flattening residential buildings and heavily populated civilian areas.

A rapid succession of strikes has killed at least seven high-ranking Hezbollah commanders and officials in recent weeks, dealing the most significant blow to the group since its formation in the early 1980s.

Those strikes have mostly been concentrated in the city’s southern Dahiyeh neighborhood, a densely packed residential area and Hezbollah stronghold. It was there that Israel assassinated the militant group’s leader in an air raid on his underground bunker on September 27.

But as Israel’s campaign to disarm Hezbollah continues, civilians are paying the highest price, including 127 children who have been killed in less than three weeks, according to the health ministry.

On September 23 alone, at least 558 people – including 50 children and 94 women – were killed.

Women and girls are also particularly affected by the displacement caused by the airstrikes, according to Lebanon’s country director at the humanitarian agency CARE International. Nearly half of the people in Lebanon’s emergency shelters for displaced people are children, and the facilities are operating beyond capacity, Michael Adams said.

Formula 1 executives postpone the rookie race schedule

Formula 1 executives have delayed a plan to organize an end-of-season race for young drivers until at least 2025.

The concept, known as the “rookie race,” was to hold a sprint-style competition during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.

To provide new drivers with a more favorable opportunity to prove they were qualified to compete in Formula One racing.

However, the F1 Commission determined at its meeting on Wednesday that additional time was required to make sure the plan functioned as best it could.

“While the proposal garnered significant approval, it was concluded that the event would not take place in 2024 owing to schedule and organizational restrictions.

Discussions will continue to establish a prospective concept and plan for 2025,” the Federal Insurance Administration stated in a statement.

The three organizations that make up the F1 Commission—teams, the regulatory body, the FIA.

And commercial rights holder Liberty Media—agreed that there was a sense the strategy was being hurried.

The workload placed on team members, who would already have completed the longest season in history. And their requirement to remain in Abu Dhabi following the final race for this new event were among the worries.

The decision also affects logistics related to freight and other matters, as well as how the event would be telecast and how to make it appealing to a wide range of viewers.

Although it is intended that the event will occur in 2025, there is no certainty that it will.

The race’s concept originated from a widespread worry that.

Due to testing restrictions imposed in recent years on the basis of cost.

Young drivers are not given enough opportunities to demonstrate their worth in Formula One machinery.

A junior driver race in modern cars held a few days after the season’s last grand prix would be a useful tool for teams to evaluate drivers’ skills.

The most recent proposal suggested that there should be a shorter qualifying session and race.

Like to those included in the schedule for “sprint” weekends.

It was decided to amend the 2026 regulations, which include significant modifications to the engines and chassis.

In order to improve the vehicles’ anticipated aerodynamic performance, among other topics covered at the F1 Commission.

This is the result of partnership efforts between the FIA and the teams.

And it comes after teams voiced fears that the 2026 cars will be too sluggish.

Furthermore, changes were reached to the financial and sporting regulations, with the latter “trying to provide a competitive balance between sporting fairness and financial sustainability” and the former “looking to simplify their structure.”

There were no specifics given.
