Mbeumo wins as Brentford defeats Ipswich in a thrilling match.
In a thrilling seven-goal Premier League match, Brentford defeated Ipswich Town, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring the game-winning goal in the 96th minute.
The Bees are still undefeated at home as Mbeumo’s left-footed cross into the box slipped past everyone and tucked into the bottom corner.
With four minutes to go, substitute Liam Delap scored a wonderful flicked finish past Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken after meeting Leif Davis’ cross.
After Harry Clarke was sent off for the opposition team after receiving two yellow cards, Brentford rallied from a two-goal deficit and appeared to be winning.
Sam Szmodics and George Hirst had given the Tractor Boys hope for their first win since going back to the division with two goals in three minutes.
Hirst found Szmodics with a threaded pass from Kalvin Phillips, and the Ireland forward finished from 15 yards out.
However, Yoane Wissa’s goal in the 44th minute and an unfortunate own goal by Clarke in the same two minutes erased their lead before halftime.
After Vitaly Janelt’s cross found Wissa in the net, Clarke got the last touch and sent the ball into his own net. Wissa then had a chance from a tight angle.
Six minutes after the restart, Clarke received his first caution after bringing down Keane Lewis-Potter in the box. Bryan Mbeumo then scored the penalty to give the home team a 3-2 lead.
Ipswich was subsequently reduced to 10 men when Clarke fouled Lewis-Potter in the 69th minute.
Delap tied the score, but Mbeumo’s late goal leaves Ipswich without a Premier League victory after nine games.
Remarkably, with seconds remaining, Delap crashed a shot off the post, saving the away team a point.
The Gtech Community Stadium has a certain appeal.
This proved to be another high-scoring match in West London, with Brentford defeating Wolves 5-3 earlier this month.
Brentford appeared to be headed for their first home loss of the season after falling behind by two goals in three minutes.
However, Thomas Frank’s team came back and scored two goals just before halftime to regain the lead.
“To be perfectly honest, I am still annoyed. We did not do well enough in many areas, therefore Ipswich deserves a lot of respect and recognition. For the first forty minutes, they were by far the superior team, Frank told BBC Match of the Day.
It was one of our worst [periods] in the Premier League’s history, and there was only one team playing at the time.
We finally won these kinds of games this season after a protracted run of losing games the previous year.
“I do not get this angry very frequently, but we were really impoverished. We must appreciate the victory because in football and the Premier League, nothing is taken for granted.
Mbeumo scored seven of his eight goals at home this season, continuing his incredible scoring run. Erling Haaland (11) of Manchester City is the only player with more league goals this season.
Wissa scored a vital goal against Manchester City in September to celebrate his first start following his injury and put his team back in the game.
For the second time since 1936–37 (first 15), Brentford (W4–D1–L0) has won all five of their home games in a top league season.
Lewis-Potter outplayed Clarke in hazardous situations during the game, which led to both of Clarke’s bookings.
After Jan Bednarek’s Southampton vs. Manchester United game in February 2021.
Clarke became just the second player in Premier League history to score an own goal.
Give up a penalty, and be sent off in the same game.
Following a passionate away performance, Ipswich will feel unfairly treated for failing to earn a point.
Even after gaining the lead and losing three goals before being reduced to ten men.
Ipswich remained strong and managed to stay in the game.
“It is frustrating that we did not receive any points tonight.
But it was a major step forward in terms of the resilience displayed.
If we can demonstrate that character and belief and be competitive every week.
Then things can turn around and we can gain points.”
With his late equalizer, Delap now has four goals in his last four Premier League games.
Ipswich will benefit greatly from having a goal scorer of his caliber as they.
Continue to wait for their first league victory.
This season, the Tractor Boys have dropped 10 points from their winning positions in the league. Ironically, the only team with more losses is Brentford (11) today.
