Italian League Results
The 2024-2025 Italian League results show Juventus stealing victory thanks to Mario Gila’s own goal when Lazio was down to 10 players.
Juventus beat Lazio 1-0 in the 8th giornata Italian League match at the Allianz Stadium, Saturday (10/19/2024).
Alessio Romagnoli’s red card in the 24th minute meant Lazio had to play with only 10 players.
Even though the opponent’s strength was lopsided, Juventus had to wait until the 85th minute to score the first goal.
Juventus’ victory was ensured by Mario Gila’s own goal when anticipating Juan Cabal’s attack.
Juventus failed to steal the lead first even though they had the advantage of the situation.
Lazio only played with full players until the 23rd minute.
Dusan Vlahovic initially sent a through ball to Pierre Kalulu who failed to receive it well.
This was caused by Alessio Romagnoli’s violation against Pierre Kalulu.
Having involved VAR, Alessio Romagnoli finally received a straight red card.
The center back was the last man in Lazio’s defense when he committed the violation.
Superior in number of players, Juventus tried to present their first threat to Lazio.
Andrea Cambiasso was able to pass Nuno Tavares’ shadow from the left side of the field in the 42nd minute
Cambiasso then gave a high pass to Federico Gatti who was still in Lazio’s penalty box.
Even though he was standing close to the opponent, Gatti failed to convert his team’s first chance into a goal.
Failing to take advantage of opportunities in the first half, Juventus took an aggressive stance after the break.
Khephren Thuram’s shot was still deflected after hitting Mario Gila in the 56th minute.
However, the ball still rolled towards Dusan Vlahovic who was in Lazio’s penalty box.
Dusan Vlahovic immediately shot the ball towards the goal guarded by Ivan Provedel.
Vlahovic’s efforts this time still failed after the ball only hit the opponent’s goalpost.
Two minutes later, Timothy Weah’s high pass was successfully headed by Douglas Luiz.
However, Luiz had not paid attention to the direction of the header that hit his head.
The ball finally went wide and Juventus were still biting their fingers because they had not been able to score a goal.
Despite having a lot of time left, the situation had not changed for Juventus.
Thiago Motta did not see his team bombarding the opponent with dangerous opportunities.
Juventus actually had difficulty producing threats that endangered Lazio’s goal.
A draw would be detrimental to La Vecchia Signora’s efforts in pursuing the top position in the standings.
However, Juventus’ face could still be saved before the match ended.
Juventus built an attack from the left side of the field and Juan Cabal fired a low shot that was intended for his teammate in front of the goal.
Mario Gila made a mistake when he was about to sweep Cabal’s shot.
The ball ended up going into Ivan Provedel’s goal and giving Juventus the advantage they were looking for.
This narrow victory was enough to take Juventus to 2nd place in the Italian League standings for the 2024-2025 season.
