Free agents are signed by Northampton. Eyoma and Waghorn
Former Lincoln City center-back TJ Eyoma and Derby County attacker Martyn Waghorn have signed short-term contracts with Northampton Town.
After helping Derby County earn promotion back to the Championship last season with seven goals, Waghorn, 34, left Pride Park.
After making 33 appearances in the 2023–24 season, 26 of which were in League One.
And scoring three goals, Eyoma, 24, was released by the Imps.
Waghorn has spent the majority of his career playing in the Championship.
And he will bring that experience and background with him, according to boss Jon Brady.
“We believe Martyn can help us get through this stressful time because the squad is a little strained right now.
Both in terms of the number of players absent in forward positions and the busy schedule.”
In addition to Leicester City, Wigan Athletic, Rangers, Ipswich Town, and Coventry City, Waghorn started his career at Sunderland.
Before permanently joining them in the summer of 2021, Eyoma spent two loan stints with Lincoln after rising through the Tottenham Hotspur junior system.
“With the guys we are losing and the hectic schedule of games we have coming up, I felt we needed extra support and depth in that specific area,” Brady stated.
“We are happy to welcome him to Sixfields as he arrives healthy and ready to play.”
Northampton will play the EFL Trophy against Leicester City Under-21s on Tuesday after hosting non-league Kettering Town on Saturday.
On November 9, they will play their first League One match away to leaders Birmingham City.
