Erick Thohir Tells South Korean Media About His Vision for Indonesian Football

In a recent interview with Best Eleven, one of the oldest monthly publications in South Korea. Erick Thohir, the chairperson of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), discussed his vision for the transformation of Indonesian football. He underlined PSSI’s dedication to creating an open, competent, and successful football ecosystem.

In a post on his official Instagram account on Friday, December 27, 2024. Erick described himself as saying, “It is very vital to establish a team that wants to work hard for the projects and working together.”

Erick admitted that one of the shortcomings in Indonesian football management has been management-related. Sometimes the management lacks professionalism, transparency, openness, and integrity. We therefore wish to make these changes,” he stated.

Erick emphasized the value of passionate and committed leadership throughout the interview. “I enjoy my work as a leader. This is crucial. If you do not labor from the heart, you will not succeed,” he continued.

Erick underlined that commitment and cooperative teamwork are necessary to meet PSSI’s objectives. “I have a lot of ambition when it comes to goals. If you do not have a team behind you, two of these will not exist. Therefore, it is crucial to create a team that is motivated to work hard on the projects and collaborate.

Erick also disclosed PSSI’s lofty goal of getting the Indonesian national team into the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. “We need to start the program now since the U23 AFC Cup. Which is also an Olympic qualifying event, is in 2027.”

Erick emphasized the need of concentrating on the final four.

Qualifying round games in order to qualify for the World Cup. “There are still four games left. In order to qualify [for it]. You must finish second in your groups or advance through the playoffs if you are in third or fourth place. So let us concentrate on these four games,” he remarked.

Erick emphasized the value of teamwork and commitment in his Instagram post, expressing confidence in reaching these lofty objectives. “The entire team must work hard, labor from the heart. And believe in our shared dreams in order to attain these goals,” he said.
