Daniel Klein Praises the Indonesian National Team for being open to using players of descent. As a result, the Garuda Squad has grown stronger with the combination of local players and those from Europe.
Klein is known to be pursuing a career at FC Augsburg which is competing in the 2024-2025 Bundesliga. He openly stated that he has Indonesian descent.
That background has made him follow the progress of the Indonesian National Team quite a bit in recent times. He is also happy that the Red and White Team is now stronger with the presence of players of descent.
“It’s great that Indonesia is quite open (to players of descent) and continues to want to develop its football by combining local players with naturalization,” said Klein in an exclusive Bundesliga interview, Thursday, November 7, 2024.
That openness does allow players of descent like Klein to defend the Indonesian National Team. Moreover, PSSI is currently actively looking for footballers of Indonesian blood in Europe.
It is recorded that the Indonesian National Team is currently strengthened by nine players of descent. They are Thom Haye, Maarten Paes, Mees Hilgers, Ragnar Oratmangoen, Jordi Amat, Shandy Walsh, Shayne Pattynama, Ivar Jenner, and Rafael Struick.
In the near future, that number will increase. Because, Kevin Diks is undergoing the naturalization process to become an Indonesian citizen.
It is not impossible for Klein to do the same thing. The goalkeeper is known to have Indonesian blood from his mother who is from Bali. Meanwhile, his father is a German citizen.
