Blades defeat Sunderland to win the championship.
Sheffield United defeated Sunderland at Bramall Lane. Where both teams played the majority of the game with ten men. And substitute Tom Davies scored the game-winning goal late to put Sheffield United back atop the Championship.
In a thrilling first half, Michael Cooper saved Patrick Roberts’ penalty kick. Denying the dominant visitors a fantastic opportunity to take the lead.
Blades defeat Sunderland to After Chris Mepham was sent off for a last-man foul on Tyrese Campbell. Home defender Harry Souttar received a second yellow card for a tug on Wilson Isidor during first-half stoppage time. Both clubs subsequently had a center-back sent off.
Vini Souza and Femi Seriki caused Black Cats goalie Anthony Patterson to make some brilliant saves. But he was unable to block Davies’ low strike.
The Blades, who have now maintained eight consecutive clean sheets at home. Held out for a spirited victory despite Sunderland’s late equalizer attempt, which would have given them a sixth straight draw.
After the final whistle, his teammates threw former England Under-21 player Davies into the air. He was making just his second appearance of the season after recovering from a long-term injury.
Regis Le Bris’ fourth-place team, whose 10-match winning streak ended abruptly, will find it difficult to accept a loss.
The Wearsiders dominated the first few minutes of the match. Which was the third game in six days for both teams.
Down their left, Tommy Watson, a teenager. Looked energetic and got the penalty after running onto Isidor’s beautiful flick and being pulled down by Jack Robinson.
Cooper, however, made the correct guess when he dove low to his left to block Roberts’ kick. Ten minutes later. The away team was down a man as Mepham. Was ruled to have denied Campbell a chance to score after United. Capitalized on a mishandled ball by Luke O’Nien of Sunderland.
However, Souttar’s dismissal for stupidly yanking Isidor back after the young. Frenchman turned him on the halfway line swiftly restored numerical parity.
Although the second half was obviously not as good as the first, both teams made a concerted effort to score.
Five minutes after replacing the waning Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, former Everton player Davies emerged as the improbable hero.
After going over three years without scoring, Davies caught a loose ball in the box and blasted a hard shot that beat an unsighted Patterson.
The Blades visit play-off contenders West Brom the next day, while Sunderland hosts Stoke a week from home on Saturday in an attempt to record their first victory since October 26.
Davies takes pleasure in the “wonderful feeling.”
Tom Davies, a midfielder for Sheffield United, told Sky Sports:
All I wanted to do was return and demonstrate something, and I was successful.
“The manager has given me time to heal rather than hurrying me back. I immediately gave him a huge thank you.
“We just want to see where the season is heading since it is an incredible club.”
Chris Wilder, the manager of Sheffield United, told Sky Sports:
“In my opinion, only one team appeared to be winning throughout the final twenty to twenty-five minutes. The health levels were incredible over those final twenty-five minutes.
“I believed we were doing well once we took control of the center of the park. We continued to make bad choices. It turns like a basketball game when you make bad choices.
“I never thought they would score, and I always felt like we had a winner within of us.”
Regarding Davies’ comeback from injury to score the game-winning goal: “Tom’s skill is evident to all.
“It makes you happy to have moments like that, to hear things like that in football.”
Regis Le Bris, the manager of Sunderland, told BBC Radio Newcastle:
“At the end of the game, we are dissatisfied since we played well against one of the league’s best teams.
“Despite being dominant and in control of the game, we failed to score.
“We have a good level, so I hope we can maintain this approach. However, we need to figure out a few specifics to alter the dynamic.
“It is unfortunate because we created opportunities. Although we performed well, it was insufficient.
