Verstappen is criticized by Hill for his “Dick Dastardly” antics.

Former world champion Damon Hill has accused Red Bull’s Max Verstappen of behaving like Dick Dastardly, the antagonist from Wacky Races.

During Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix, Verstappen received a 20-second penalty for two different incidents involving title challenger Lando Norris.

Norris of McLaren, who called Verstappen’s driving “dangerous,” finished second, while the Dutchman finished sixth.

“The region footage is quite clear,” Hill stated during a podcast hosted by Sky Sports.

“He made no move to back off and make the corner and allow room for Lando. It was just a case of you not showing up.

“That second move was absolutely dumb and ridiculous. Lando had little choice as he drove him off the track as he accelerated to the apex. That was very foolish driving.

Dick Dastardly was a character from the animated TV show Wacky Races in the 1960s, as well as a number of subsequent cartoons and movies, who would attempt to win by using devious methods.

Verstappen stated, “I just drive how I think I have to drive,” “This week’s 20-second penalty was fine last week.

“I will not cry about it, and I will not express my thoughts either.

The main issue I had was that the racing pace was not good that day.

At the last race in Austin, Texas, Verstappen and Norris also got into a heated argument.

Both ended up in the run-off area when Norris was penalized for attempting to pass Verstappen around the outside, despite the fact that the two were involved in a similar incident during the US Grand Prix.

The season resumes this weekend in Brazil, and there are four Grands Prix left in 2024.

“Sport is said to demonstrate character rather than develop it,” Hill continued. “His default is to revert to preventative techniques rather than trying to maintain it within the confines of justice.”

“You should not be permitted to just block the track and use your car as a weapon.”

With 120 points left up for grabs, Verstappen is hoping for a fourth consecutive world championship. He leads Norris, who is trying to win it for the first time, by 47 points.
