Man Utd in Amorim negotiations as Ten Hag’s replacement is sought
Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting, is being considered by Manchester United to succeed Erik ten Hag.
Amorim, 39, is a well-liked coach who, since joining Sporting in 2020, has led them to two Portuguese league titles, including their first in 19 years.
Furthermore, it is unclear if other candidates are still in the running for the Old Trafford position.
But Amorim is suddenly emerging as the front-runner.
But he was expecting a question about it.
Although United has named Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag’s assistant, as their interim manager, they have yet to say how long the Dutchman will hold the position or whether he will undoubtedly be present at Old Trafford on Wednesday when they play Leicester in the Carabao Cup.
Van Nistelrooy holding a pregame press conference on Tuesday has already been ruled out by the club.
Others with knowledge of United’s finances have indicated that this will not be an insurmountable problem.
In 2020, Sporting paid Braga, Amorim’s previous team, 10 million euros (£8.3 million) to acquire him.
West Ham and Amorim, whose contract expires in June 2026.
Had discussions in April but were unable to come to an agreement. The Portuguese then apologized to Sporting for having talks behind the club’s back.
With three victories from their first nine games, Manchester United dropped to 14th place in the Premier League after their 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday.
After drawing their first three games, they are currently ranked 21st out of 36 clubs in the Europa League standings.
